I had an old edition a few years ago and I really worked hard on to memorized the words。 Now I open a new edition, the sixth one, founding a lot of words revert to new words to me again。

2。5 stars。 In a lot of ways, this is a typical vocabulary book, and I tried to withhold judgement on the aspect as much as I could。 What I really found lacking in this book was the structure。 The "words in context" approach can be a great way to learn new words, but the sentence construction was so stilted that it was often impossible to figure what the meaning of the word was supposed to be-there were no indicators either way and it drove me crazy。 A lot of the words in this book I was already 2。5 stars。 In a lot of ways, this is a typical vocabulary book, and I tried to withhold judgement on the aspect as much as I could。 What I really found lacking in this book was the structure。 The "words in context" approach can be a great way to learn new words, but the sentence construction was so stilted that it was often impossible to figure what the meaning of the word was supposed to be-there were no indicators either way and it drove me crazy。 A lot of the words in this book I was already familiar with, but I found the usage to be just a little bit off the mark, which made me suspicious about the words that I wasn't familiar with。 Overall, I don't think my retention was great and I don't think I really took much away from this book。 I don't really recommend this book-there are better ways to build your vocabulary。 。。。more

I'm surprised I made it through this whole book。 I copy vocabulary in English and French to unwind and improve my handwriting。 This book was awesome because the words were great, I definitely learned some new ones and it wasn't too dry。 There are a LOT of moments to refresh。 I recommend this book to others wanting to practice handwriting, test studiers, and all high school students going to college。 I'm surprised I made it through this whole book。 I copy vocabulary in English and French to unwind and improve my handwriting。 This book was awesome because the words were great, I definitely learned some new ones and it wasn't too dry。 There are a LOT of moments to refresh。 I recommend this book to others wanting to practice handwriting, test studiers, and all high school students going to college。 。。。more

fun and engaging - I do 1 unit per day since May 2018。 I think it's great to revisit some of the words that you might not use everyday。 fun and engaging - I do 1 unit per day since May 2018。 I think it's great to revisit some of the words that you might not use everyday。 。。。more

The format of a page a day is superb, not overwhelming。 The words are well-chosen, usefully balanced between not too common and not too obscure, but the paragraphs that are supposed to introduce the words in context are so awkward and unnatural。

I used this book as an online course in memrise。com due to its effective method to improve the memorizing process of the words and also the available pronunciations and more synonyms。 Here is the URL of the course I used:https://www。memrise。com/course/336961。。。Moreover, I bought a printed version of the book to solve its practices。 These words are not as familiar to foreign people as the TOEFL words since they are more scholarly and less used in movies, books, and everyday conversations。 So, in I used this book as an online course in memrise。com due to its effective method to improve the memorizing process of the words and also the available pronunciations and more synonyms。 Here is the URL of the course I used:https://www。memrise。com/course/336961。。。Moreover, I bought a printed version of the book to solve its practices。 These words are not as familiar to foreign people as the TOEFL words since they are more scholarly and less used in movies, books, and everyday conversations。 So, in order to memorize them better, I needed to see the usage of these words in different phrases and solve some practices which are available in various forms in the printed version of this book。 。。。more

Weird product。 Why these words and not others? Boring otherwise。

Arezu Wishka

Dropped it to continue in a better time。

Borrowed from library。 Meant for high school, but given that my girls are reading at high levels, might be good for practice for them。

I did not have the chance to finish the book and read it thoroughly but overall I can easily claim that these kind of books are not sufficient for English learners。 you simply memorize words without learning them in a context。

I worked on improving my vocabulary in the mid-1990s。 I used this book as part of that。 I carried a stack of flash cards with me。 Some of this workbook has my work written right in it。 This book is set up to teach five new words a week。 Cloze activities are provided as well as idioms and review quizzes。 I really like how this book was set up and I did well following it。

John Sorensen

A bit too simple for a college-level vocabulary, but a good primer for the ACT or SAT。
